About This Game Eschalon: Book I is an old-school role-playing game that will take you across massive outdoor environments and deep into dozens of sprawling dungeons as you seek to uncover the mystery of who you are. It features a tile-built, turn-based game world where the result of absolutely every action is rolled, calculated or statistically determined. Hundreds of items and dozens of creatures await your discovery in this classically inspired RPG. A tile-built, turn-based game world where the result of absolutely every action is rolled, calculated or statistically determined. Strategy is paramount to success; careful skill management, equipment selection and magic usage will win your fights, not rapid button clicking. We are very pleased to say this is not another "action RPG". Hundreds of items and dozens of creatures await your discovery. A combination of randomly generated treasure and carefully hidden goodies means that no two games will play the exact same way. Unlimited character development style: Choose from 24 unique skills to make the character you want and 8 base attributes that affect your character's every action throughout the game. The game world does not scale or adjust itself to match anyone's play style, so the ease or difficulty of the game is directly related to how successful you are at developing your character. Combat plays out at your pace. Eschalon: Book I features a turn-based system that allows you to roll through combat as fast or slow you want...make it fast and furious, or analyze every option for maximum advantage. A non-linear storyline means that the game world is open to explore as you desire. Follow the storyline or don't...it's up to you. Just be careful where you go and who you choose to trust- the world of Eschalon can be a deadly place for an inexperienced adventurer. An epic adventure that you must face alone...a single-player RPG carefully designed to feel like the great old school RPGs of the past such as Ultima®, Might & Magic®, and Wizardry® 7aa9394dea Title: Eschalon: Book IGenre: Indie, RPGDeveloper:Basilisk GamesPublisher:Basilisk GamesRelease Date: 17 Nov, 2007 Eschalon: Book I Free Download [addons] eschalon book mods. eschalon book 1 hive larvae. eschalon book 2 builds. eschalon book 1 acorn. eschalon book 2 treasure map. eschalon book 1 disease. eschalon book 3 alchemy. eschalon book iii gameplay. eschalon book 1 dungeon fever. eschalon book 2 alchemy recipes. eschalon book 1 hive queen stinger. eschalon book 3 disease. eschalon book 3 ending. eschalon book 1 potion recipes. eschalon book i walkthrough. eschalon book 2 foraging. eschalon book iii registration code. eschalon book 2 registration code. eschalon book 1 quick travel. eschalon book 2 download free. eschalon book 1 walkthrough. eschalon book 1 quests. eschalon book 1 lever puzzle. eschalon book 1 attributes. eschalon book 2 skills. eschalon book 1 max level. eschalon book 3 foraging. eschalon book 2 hammer lorne. eschalon book 2 torrent. eschalon book i wiki. eschalon book 1 tangletree ossuary. eschalon book 1 how to pick locks. eschalon book 2 spells. eschalon book similar games. eschalon book 1 forum. eschalon book 1 download full version. eschalon book i download. eschalon book 1 blackwater. eschalon book 3 cheats. eschalon book 1 crypt. eschalon book steam. eschalon book 1 divine ore. eschalon book 2 guide. eschalon book 1 torrent. eschalon book 1 mac. eschalon book 2 quick travel locations. eschalon book 1. eschalon book 2 potions. eschalon book 1 remove disease. eschalon book 1 video game. eschalon book i skills. eschalon book 1 character creation guide. eschalon book i cheats. eschalon book 2 thieves arcadia. eschalon book disease. eschalon book 3 download. eschalon book 2 download full version. eschalon book i gameplay. eschalon book 2 to hunt an assassin. eschalon book 1 free download full game. eschalon book i gog. eschalon book 1 character editor. eschalon book 2 character creation guide. eschalon book 1 odd key. eschalon book 4. eschalon book 1 spells. eschalon book 3 how to get to astral range. eschalon book 2 registration key. eschalon book 1 party. eschalon book 3 divination. eschalon book 1 poltergeist. eschalon book 1 download. eschalon book 1 fast travel. eschalon book iii expansion. eschalon book 2 Poison. Taking damage from hitting a barrel with an axe!Merchants in a remote village who somehow have nothing you can afford, like the only car dealer in town is Rolls Royce. All of this only comes after unending, boring travel.Yes Eschalon is an old-school RPG ... with all the boredom and frustration that came with those games.. This is one of those games that was designed to look like retro RPG's. That should explain the cheesy graphics. As far as the puzzles go, they are mediocre at best. The game itself has an ok storyline and is somewhat muddled in its explanation of how things evolved to this. Not bad for a retro looker though. Some things that will pisss alot of people off are:1. The rate of character level up does not seem to make a difference in terms of your damage factor. There are a lot of stats you can enhance and it does not seem to make a major difference even when you have leveled several times.2. The abilities that you can enhance your character with suffer from the same mentioned previously.3. Monsters are ALWAYS vastly over whelming for you to fight and will make you more aware of the previously mentioned complaints regarding character devlopment.4. THE DEVS DO NOT ALLOW CHEATING. THERE ARE NO CHEATS AVAILABLE AT ALL. NONE. You can't even edit a file to cheat. There are a few links to trainers that do not work. So if you have a desire to cheat, like some people do, you are out crap out of luck. This is guaranteed to pisss off many people and the DEV'S have stated they DO NOT CARE, so be forewarned. This, of course, applies to all three of the Eschalon games (1,2, and 3). I am one of those people who like to cheat occasionally and I don't need the whiney anti cheat community to tell me what I need, nor do I appreciate DEV'S who don't care about it either. Tired of this cry baby anti cheat coommunity. If you don't like to cheat, then don't cheat. Plain English, but don't make it impossible for people to do it in game or you are going to lose quite a few sales. This alone has caused me to refuse any purchases form these DEV'S until they change. In summary, this was not a bad game at all. It was nothing revolutionary either, but still not bad. I did manage to beat it without cheats, but it pisssed me off that the DEV's pulled this crap. If you don't like being forced to play without cheats, don't buy the follow up games, because you can not cheat in them either.GAME TIPS: Make monsters chase you to any border and then stand and fight. I usually run around the map and get 4-5 to follow me.If they beat you up badly simply walk through the border to enter a screen refresh and then camp until you are healed. Monsters will never follow you, but instead wait for you over the border. Walk back over the border and they will still be there with the same damage you gave them before. When camping, count to 4 seconds by watching the time of day clock and then stop the campng. Then redo it again by hitting the camp button. This will prevent the game from spawning monsters on you while you camp. If you over extend your welcome while camping, the game spawns powerful monsters to wear you down again so count 4 seconds on the time of day clock and then stop. Re camp until health is filled and then save the game. When you restart you will have all your health again. SAVE SAVE SAVE. That should help alot, of course the easiest way to help you is reccommend you ignore this game and buy something way better, and believe me there are WAY better games. It wouldn't surprise me if the game DEV's release a patch that disallows these exploits too, lol.. The main plot is pretty bad. From the other hand, there is a lot of good storytelling hidden in it. Destroyed villages and cultures, some suggested relationships between characters, various routes.Still, though, it's too basic as far as the writing goes. Good humans, evil goblins (they are evil = they torture people), great war between nations, the main hero with amnesia. There are some role-playing choices, but not too many. In most of the cases you can either accept a quest or refuse it (what gives you no value whatsoever), threaten someone to give you more money (which almost never works) and basically you can only choose between being an annoying a s s hole or a good guy. When you get actual choices, it get's quite interesting. But generally speaking, I don't think you should play Eschalon: Book I for its writing. As far as the gameplay goes, it has A LOT of walking and some cool strategic fights with strong RNG elements. The basics are very strong, but there are some details that provide issues or don't work well with each other. Some abilities are overall useless, while others are very significant. Most of the strategic value seems to be addressed toward melee characters - I played as a ranger and while I used a bow, there were a lot of enemies that were very punishing (even exploding) when they were dying next to you. Some of this depth vanishes when you can keep a large distance.Magic in this game is great. Various spells are focused on utility and even a fighter should play around with some basics spells during its adventures. It has some The Elder Scrolls vibe, but I found myself needing to use spells in this game much more. Also, you never reach the point of becoming hilariously overpowered aside of the very end of the game, where it gets rewarding and satisfying. At the same time, the character creation was quite pleasant. You can screw yourself in many ways if you don't know which skills are strong and which aren't, but it's nothing like the oldest TES games where you were spending half an hour reading everything. The only problem is the "roll your stats" elements. I hope the sequels avoided it. It's a 5/10 game. 6/10 if you like RPGs, 7/10 if you like open world RPGs, 8/10 if you absolutely don't care about bad story. I'm definitely going to play the first sequel next.. An awesome little pc rpg game. It is obviously designed and made by people/person who is a player of pc rpg games; not just by a producer or designer trying to make a pc rpg. Everything is there that a player of rpg games would want. You can save in the middle of battles, its turned based, has crafting system, teleportation system, non-linear, mysterious little main quest, spell and skill system is neat, npc dialoge is simple, easy to play so less time being stuck, sub-quests are nice. My only complaint is that I want more - bigger game, and more complexity. So thank God they made Eschalon 2. :-). Great for fans of RPGs in the 80s and early 90s era. I will never know what lies in the goblin citadel because THERE ARE TOO MANY DAMN MINOTAURS. This game is very hard, i only reccomend if youre ace pro at these sorts of RPGs and have little to zero anger issues.. Eschalon: Book One reminded me of the old PC games I grew up playing. It’s a pretty simple game once you do a few test runs (hence my 40 hour play time… it shouldn’t take that long to beat). Once I figured out the ideal character build, the game was much easier. Trust me, the game is weighted toward a certain playstyle (my suggestion, make sure you have lockpicking and archery… you’ll thank me later). I didn’t try magic but it seemed underwhelming in this game… Melee and archery are definitely the go to skills on this one. Overall, it was a fun experience mixed with a bit of frustration and boredom, but I definitely recommend buying and trying it out.PROS:• Old school feel (and to a degree, difficulty)• Graphics create a good atmosphere• Every character has a unique portrait (take some tips Wasteland 2)• Good music and sound effects• Satisfying character progression• Story is good enough to keep you interested• Fairly open ended (you can go wherever you want and there are different results for some quests)CONS:• Walking is very slow (there is fast travel but it isn’t always the most direct)• Large empty areas• Randomized loot chests (change on reload)• Quite a few spelling errors• Cheap fighting tactics required: Most fights, you’ll be running in circles to make space then taking cheap shots (which miss frequently, even with high dexterity and archery). If you don’t keep space, enemies will rip you to shreds and there are some enemies that permanently destroy your items if you melee them.• Needing copious amounts of healing potions or hours of rest after most fights gets tedious.. As they say on their website, Making Great Single Player RPGs the way the are intended to be made.. NOTE: Ignore my steam hours, I've played this game through several times.Great tactical turn based RPG, although there is far too much spam of camping to get hit points back. Great starter game for those just getting into to PC gaming, and don't quite want to do twitch finger combat.10/10 One of the games of my childhood.. Old school RPG - as in Ultima old school
